For a yearly subscription fee, residents will receive a wheeled bin (or sacks for qualifying properties) for their garden waste that will be collected every fortnight. Somerset Council carries out garden waste collections in Somerset in fulfilment of its duties under section 45 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Remember, we'll only collect waste that's been placed in a bin, box or purple sack provided by Stirling Council. Your green bin waste is taken to an energy recovery facility in Oxfordshire where it is incinerated. On your collection day please present your bin at the kerbside or agreed location by 6:30am on the morning of your collection. On your collection day, please put your blue bin and green box out wherever your black and green bins are currently collected from, unless you receive a letter from the council telling you otherwise.

If you are struggling financially and in urgent need we may be able to give you some support via the Liverpool Citizens Support Scheme. You can apply for an additional green bin or request a replacement bin if your green bin is lost, stolen or damaged. We will collect any extra recycling if you leave it in a clear or green plastic bag at the side of your bin on collection day.Collections will not be made from any property other than the property to which your subscription relates. Your garden waste goes to one of several composting sites in Somerset, including Dimmer and Walpole, where it is shredded, and turned into compost. For sacks to be collected, you must request a collection using My Waste Services before midday on the day before your scheduled collection day. This could be using the blue or brown collection services, or by using local Recycling centres and points. In addition, two new policies will be introduced to support our recycling services, addressing contamination (the wrong material placed in recycling bins) and bin provision.

If one general waste bin isn’t big enough, households with 7 or more permanent residents may apply for extra capacity for their general waste bin but only if they are actively recycling. Whilst this is better than burying it in landfill it is important that we all play our part to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle as much as possible.
