Following track ‘Revolutionary Kind’ maintains the albums the acoustic soul of the record, whilst synth notes permeate the track, demonstrating the band’s ability to contort genre as well as the influence of dance and electro. Liquid Skin received generally favourable reviews from critics, many of whom found it to be a retread of Bring It On with improved production. The original working title of the record was Devil Will Ride , the title of the final song of the set, prior to being temporarily changed to God’s Big Spaceship .

My favorite line, I forget where it came from, was that I had ‘a voice like a buffalo being back ended into a woodchipper,’” remembers Ottewell. Having a lot of good songs with novel arrangements, and being uniquely a sort of jam band with no soloists, made them wonderful to listen to. Tracks like “Someday,” which sounds very much of that late ‘90s time, and skronky percussive track “Nobody’s Girl. Bring It On is a considerably more immediate record than Liquid Skin, containing the three finest pop turns from each of Gomez’s three lead singers including what would have to be their signature tune, “Get Miles,” which you still hear from time to time on the soundtracks of TV shows when characters are experiencing drug trips. Any British indie band with a remotely broad musical vision was expected to deliver the next classic to compete with Radiohead's beast, even though it should have been obvious that it wasn't going to happen.We also do not accept products that are intimate or sanitary goods, hazardous materials, or flammable liquids or gases. Liquid Skin was released through Hut Records on 13 September 1999; its US release occurred a week later. If you had Steve [Mason] from The Beta Band singing a couple of our songs it would have been seen in a very different way. The second half of the record, which follows this, is amazing and one of the strongest flip sides you'll come across.

As the record kicks in, Gomez’s anti-Britpop sound is out in full force, with track ‘Hangover’ showcasing a distinct folk/rock hybrid of wailing guitars and pounding drum beats. They had to invite us to the ceremony, and we were like, ‘Sorry we are playing the Fillmore in San Francisco that night. While the arrangements can be intricate, songs such as the folky 'Revolutionary Kind' use simple repeated guitar hooks as their base, leaving the band to playfully add the colours and texture that defines their sound.
