About this deal

Unfortunately, a media baron discovers his sexual weakness and is blackmailing him for government secrets. Along with his friend and collaborator Jacob Epstein, Gill planned the construction in the Sussex countryside of a colossal, hand-carved monument in imitation of the large-scale structures at Gwalior Fort in Madhya Pradesh. This was an envelope in the Ditchling archives, on the back of which, in two columns, Gill had listed, in some detail, the measurements of various parts of the bodies of his daughters, Elizabeth (Betty) and Petra. So imagine– no, in fact it’s probably best if you don’t try to imagine– how “put off” one of Gill’s younger daughters was when he “stayed ½ hour – put penis in her arse” in January of 1920, or on one afternoon in July of 1921 when he made his sixteen year old daughter Betty orgasm (and made her bring him to orgasm) just so they could watch the effect it had on their anuses: “Why should it contract during the orgasm, and why should a woman’s do the same as a man’s?

Gill’s reputation as an artist grew continuously over the course of the early 20th century until his death in 1940. Hepburn has talked to groups who work with those who have experienced sexual abuse, and he has accepted some of their advice. Most of the information in the book comes from Gill’s personal diaries, in which he went into great detail about sexual acts with his own children, sister and a dog.

M Godding Books Ltd is an internet book business running from Wiltshire and sending books all over the world every working day. But she veers away from tackling the issue of what impact the Ditchling show might have on future Gill shows, except to say that she hopes more institutions will be “willing to participate in difficult conversations about Gill’s life in relation to his work”.

Gill created striking designs that unified and integrated illustrations into the text and also created a new typeface for the Press. At Capel, Gill made the sculptures The Sleeping Christ (1925), Deposition (1925), and Mankind (1927). After making a copy of a small stone tablet from Westminster Abbey, Gill's first public inscription was for a stone memorial tablet, to a Percy Joseph Hiscock, in Chichester Cathedral. However, Gill became disillusioned with the direction of the Guild and fell out badly with his close friend Pepler, partly over the latter's wish to expand the community and form closer ties with Ditchling village and also because Gill's daughter, Betty, wanted to marry Pepler's son, David.

In 1934, Gill contributed art to an exhibition mounted by the left-wing Artists' International Association, and defended the exhibition against accusations in The Catholic Herald that its art was "anti-Christian".Tagged: 1920s, 20th century, artists, bestiality, biography, child abuse, dead artists, Eric Gill, incest, sculpture, Sex, silly costumes, typography. But all is not well with the world - the golden age of oil and chips is now over, and unsustainable development is leading to social turmoil, and to world war.
