About this deal

I found it confusing that the author goes from one point of view to another, from one MC to the other and even from present to past and vice versa inside each chapter and without demarcation points. At a certain time, I believed that the author was describing something that was happening to Allander in the present, but it was something that had happened to Jade in the past! Strong women. Lots of them, and in unexpected places. One woman meets the news of her husband’s death with grace, poise, dignity, and quiet strength. One woman refuses to be demeaned. And one woman, who wanted to go home and stay out of the way, stays with the firemen instead and comes up with great ideas for helping. London, Kate (5 April 2016). Marvel Comics has also published three supplemental books to date that expand upon characters and locations first introduced in the novels. The Dark Tower: Gunslingers' Guidebook was released in 2007, The Dark Tower: End-World Almanac was released in 2008, and The Dark Tower: Guide to Gilead was released in 2009. All three books were written by Anthony Flamini, with Furth serving as creative consultant. End-World Almanac and Guide to Gilead feature illustrations by David Yardin. The adage is ‘knowledge is power.’ The monks of the Citadel have amassed a library of the entire world’s knowledge which is off limits to all but the members of a particular rank of the hierarchy, and certainly closed to the outside world. The hierarchy wields such power that there is no conflict or strife or disease within the confines of the monastery. All are devoted to The Sacrament even though only the top echelon knows or understands what it is. Once the sacrament is released into the world, circumstances change. A mysterious plague is unleashed and all available resources are engaged to recover it. Allegiances shift like desert sand leaving the reader to wonder who the good guys are. In true fashion of the genre, readers are given the ah-ha at the end. Lussier, Germain (June 20, 2017). "Yes, The Dark Tower Movie Is A Sequel To The Books". Gizmodo . Retrieved August 9, 2017.Other characters fair no better. The villain is a draw by numbers psychopath/ tortured genius/relentlessly brilliant sociopath. His psychopathy is (of course) a boringly over the top story of childhood trauma delivered in one dense data dump, with all of the elegance of a technical report on Wi-Fi stability. The Gunslinger Revised: A Side by Side Comparison". Palaver - A forum for Stephen King fans & Book Collectors. Holy Crap, what a bad book. No, I mean REALLY bad. And what's really bad is that it has the makings of a very good story, buried deep inside itself.

One of the big things in this book was religion, and I feel that it was done well. One of the big things for me, was that one of the most basic premises in this book was fiction, basically the Citadel, Ruin, Sactii, and that allowed me to actually approach all the religious aspects in this book as fiction, not Christianity in general, but some of the more radical and made up views. It turned the book from possible conspiracy theory, to interesting fiction. The author put in the effort, and there were some spots where he visibly studied what he was going to talk about, especially in relation to the medical and astronomy/space telescope fields, which always adds a good element to the book. The fourth arc, The Dark Tower: Fall of Gilead, began publication on May 13, 2009. A hardcover volume containing all 6 issues, as well as the Sorcerer One-Shot was released on February 2, 2010. I read "The Glass Inferno" then "The Tower" and then watched the movie "Towering Inferno." I had seen the movie years ago and remembered a lot but it was very interesting to see how the elements of the film were derived from the two books. More of the movie came from the "The Glass Tower" but some key parts also came from "The Tower." a b c d e f Geall, Lauren; Ross, Charley (8 November 2021). "ITV's The Tower: Gemma Whelan's new crime drama starts tonight". Stylist. Archived from the original on 15 February 2022 . Retrieved 15 February 2022.The Tower takes place on the day of the opening of the World Tower in New York City. The World Tower – not to be confused with the World Trade Center, located nearby – is the tallest building in the world, and to celebrate its dedication, there is going to be a party on the very tippy-top, with the builder, the mayor, the governor, the senator, a congressman, some guy from the United Nations…well, you get the picture. The only character worth mentioning is the governor, simply because he meets a young lady at the party and falls instantly, deeply in love, a relationship that is stunningly fake, yet does not even make the top-ten list of dumb things in this book. Es un libro que tiene ciertas palabras y modismos que sin duda son de otra época, y se hace un poco difícil de entender si no estás familiarizado con esto, pero no le resta continuidad a la historia. Without him Liv Adamsen, a former journalist, is vulnerable, surrounded by strangers in the desert oasis that is her new home. Liv, however, has far bigger concerns than just her own life… He rose as she came toward him smiling, skirt short on regal legs, long hair gleaming, unbrassiered breasts jouncing gently."

Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital adapted the series for film. [20] The film is directed by Nikolaj Arcel, [21] and stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, cast respectively as Roland Deschain and Walter O'Dim. [22] The film was released on August 4, 2017. [23] Critics panned the film with it receiving a score of 16% on Rotten Tomatoes. [24] The film combines elements from several novels in The Dark Tower series, serving as a canonical sequel to the novel series, which concluded with the revelation that Roland's quest was a cyclical time loop; the presence of the Horn of Eld, which Roland carries in the film, indicates that this is the next cycle. Stephen King has indicated that The Dark Tower film and television series will follow Roland's "last time round" to the titular Dark Tower. [25] [26] [27] In July 2016, director Nikolaj Arcel confirmed that The Dark Tower film would be a sequel to the novels as well as a direct adaptation, with Roland in the next cycle of his journey to the Tower. [28] Within a matter of weeks [of joining the police] I was writing - not for publication, but because I just had to get down on paper the world I encountered: its complexity, laughter, loyalty, the moral conflicts and the dangers that were not only physical," she said. It also had some weird phrases, which are probably from the time it was written, but confused me no end. Such as: Es una historia bastante digerible, fácil de leer y si te gustan los detalles, sin duda alguna se disfruta muchísimo. Si no te gusta conocer cada pequeño detalle —importante o no—, sin duda será un libro que se te hará tedioso y “too much”. Some parts didn't age well. I wouldn't mind 70's references or music or slang, but the characters’ internal thoughts on "women's lib" got to be a bit tedious, especially since the feminist movement, as shown here, seems so far removed from anything I know, and few of the characters took it seriously. After astonishing success in locating and laying to rest Richard III, Philippa Langley turns her forensic focus onto this enduring case, teaming up with criminal investigative experts, historians, archivists and researchers from around the world in her groundbreaking The Missing Princes Project. Following years of extensive research, investigation and formidable dedication, this landmark study has finally reached completion, with stunning conclusions. In The Tower people don’t speak up, they don’t say 'No', and we know historically, in any place where bad things are happening, good people need to speak up, and when they don’t, catastrophe ensues. The Tower is a story. Saying all police are like the police in The Tower is like saying all kings are like Lear. But there do need to be things in place to make it easier for people to speak out and do the right thing. [20]None of it is groundbreaking – not that it necessarily needs to be – but it is satisfyingly done. Whelan can always be relied on for a convincing performance and this plays to her strengths. You believe that Sarah can lead, and you know that Whelan can anchor an ensemble – all of whom are equally believable. Scanlan’s leonine malevolence (as Kieran) is working particularly well to suggest that he knows far more than he is letting on – and if he and young Lizzie haven’t overstepped the thin blue line together at some point in the recent past I will eat my police procedural hat.
