About this deal

Featuring a vibrant rainbow design, and our super-sized Q logo, you won't find a more stylish way to make a statement. I haven't listened to Grimmy in years, and I hadn't realized how much I'd missed him until I started this.

But I realised it was a process – those nights out were helping me feel part of something, and making me feel accepting of gay me.

Such is his jolly tone that it’s easy to dance across his anecdotes avoiding emotional pot holes, like the extreme enduring fear sparked from watching Edward Scissorhands as a “soft lad” growing up, or his father’s death or, as he puts it, describing an early appointment with a therapist.

Listened as an audiobook and it was great hearing it told by Grimmy himself, took me right back to morning drives to school listening to his Radio 1 breakfast show, always made me laugh and this book did exactly that, but also had some really genuine moments too. Over there is a marble coffee table and a Keith Haring print, over here a Memphis piece once owned by David Bowie. He also describes the feeling when listening figures dropped: “My Terrible Personality Is Ruining Great Britain,” and his gorgeous relationship with his family, and their nonsense, and their support, and their skill at having a laugh. Some, I hope will make you laugh, and some, are emotional AF, so I'm afraid these might make you cry. Hanes DJ a chyflwynydd radio Nick Grimshaw sy’n cael ei adrodd yn Soft Lad, a ysgrifennwyd gan Grimshaw ei hun. i can't say i'm a huge autobiography person but this had me laughing and crying all within the space of one chapter and i just really love grimmy's way of storytelling - so heartwarming and fun like the man himself! The other part to this I loved was hearing about his move down to London, and the crazy life he lived.

Maybe it's because I've listened to him on Radio 1 since I was at school, but it felt more like a series of conversations with a friend in a pub rather than a formal memoir. The people he's friends with and the situations he got into don't come across as braggy or like he's name-dropping, instead it reads in such a way that it's like you're watching this young guy find his feet in a new city at a time when there was a lot less judgement and things weren't so polished. If you’re a fan of Grimmy or even if you don’t really know much about him - I definitely recommend you read this or listen on audible. The various chapters focussing on different aspects/moments/people in his life were diverse and intriguing.
