About this deal

Even though the legend of Hades and Persephone is thousands of years old, you will fall in love with these characters in a whole new way--and you'll never see the twists and turns coming! Beautiful artwork and compelling characters [take] the forefront of this romantic, tech-savvy retelling of Greek mythology.

Her mother, Demeter, has raised her in the mortal realm, but after Persephone promises to train as a sacred virgin, she’s allowed to live in the fast-moving, glamorous world of the gods.My 14 year old daughter is the one who recognized it, so she's actually the one I originally bought it for, but my curiosity got the better of me after I saw all the rave reviews. Featuring a brand-new, exclusive short story, Smythe’s original Eisner-nominated web-comic Lore Olympus brings the Greek Pantheon into the modern age with this sharply perceptive and romantic graphic novel. Kieron Gillen, co-creator of The Wicked + The Divine Persephone, young goddess of spring, is new to Olympus. Persephone is allowed to live in the glamorous world of Olympus after she promises to train as a sacred virgin. The color palettes are great, contrasting Persephone’s pink with Hades and the underworld all in blacks and blues and a fun watercolor-splash look to the backgrounds.

I can highly recommend it to all women I know even if you've never read a graphic novel or don't particularly like romance. Persephone rappresenta il conflitto tra ciò che gli altri vogliono che tu sia e ciò che desideri per te stess*, il bisogno di libertà e anche di poter sbagliare, purché a deciderlo sia tu.

I do want to point out that the drawings for all the female characters are overly and unnecessarily sexualized, which truly annoyed me and even made me a little uncomfortable. Eu simplesmente amo essa história, já acompanho ela no WEBTOON a anos e quando saiu o livro físico não poderia perder a oportunidade. It’s all very energetic and entertaining, and the modern setting opens up a lot of fun with the characters all having iphones and instagrams which quickly spread all the gossip. It's really interesting to see the author's style change and grow over the course of the series (we're on chapter 170 online), so it's really cool. I don't want to just descend into laughing at things teenage girls like - it's condescending sexist shittiness.Ade rappresenta la triste consapevolezza che la felicità per te non arriverà mai perché gli altri ti hanno detto talmente tanto spesso che non te lo meriti, che alla fine ci hai creduto.

Not a lot happens here, so I'm not really getting the level of OMGFLAIL that I see happening in the reviews. And now I can't help but think I should read more graphic novels by women to see more of this female gaze in romance with pictures. Lore Olympus is a modern spin on the original tale of Hades kidnapping Persephone to be his wife (doesn't happen like that in this version obviously, it's 2021 people). Persephone must learn the relationships and politics in Olympus as well as discover her own place and power. The tale of Hades and Persephone is one of the most recognizable in all of Greek mythology but in Smythe's hands, against a sleek modern backdrop, it is made new again.

I don't usually read graphic novels but my friend who I highly respect raved about this retelling of Persephone and Hades. In jeder Zeichnung liegt so viel Gefühl, Charakter und Niedlichkeit, dass es auf mich gewirkt und in mir ganz viel Freude ausgelöst hat. Already a word-of-mouth sensation online, Rachel Smythe’s smart, sexy, Eisner Award-winning webcomic gets its welcome print debut, bringing readers the first volume of her modern take on the Persephone myth. Now Persephone must navigate the confusing politics and relationships that rule Olympus, while also figuring out her own place–and her own power.
