About this deal

Greeted with a gin and tonic on arrival, you’ll follow the fascinating story of the Jensen’s brand, and the time-honoured processes and recipes that make their small-batch gins so special. In the event of any safety concerns or for any other information about a product please carefully read any instructions provided on the label or packaging and contact the manufacturer. It is a true London distilled dry gin made to a recipe from the 1800s so does not include cucumber, rose, grains of paradise or any of the other 'contemporary' gin botanicals. This expression is a London dry gin, boasting a host of traditional gin botanicals built around a solid core of juniper, though those other botanicals do get their fair share of attention. With heritage dating to the 1830’s, distilling of Jensen’s Bermondsey London Dry Gin and Jensen London-Distilled Old Tom Gin takes place in a small distillery in railway arches near London Bridge which is open to the public for tours on specific days.

As a banker, Jensen was lacking the skills to revive the gin himself and turned to one of the best distillers in the world, Charles Maxwell at Thames Distillers (Thames makes over 60 gin brands, including Juniper Green, Ish and Gilpin’s) to help him. When Christian Jensen first tasted the vintage gins from London's lost distilleries, he began a journey. Savor the smooth and rounded Bermondsey Dry Gin, boasting delicate floral and citrus notes perfect for a Dry Martini. The time flew by as Charlie took us all (about 6 couples) on a historical journey around the world but mainly in Great Britain. I was bought this as a Xmas present and was a bit dubious as I have found this type of thing can be a bit disappointing - but not this one! The building is in an arch under the railway so lots of atmosphere and appreciated the blanket as it was cold inside. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.I prefer my Jensen Bermondsey Gin martini served 5:1 with a lemon twist, but the softness of the botanicals suit nearly any style from the Churchill Martini (it’s just chilled gin folks) to the trendy Very Dirty Martini with copious amount of olive brine. There’s surprising earthy floral notes of violet complementing a gentle spiced coriander and quintessentially pine-forward, yet gentle, juniper note. Founded on forgotten recipes and traditional botanicals, Bermondsey Distillery started life as the personal project of gin enthusiast Christian Jensen. Jensen’s gin epitomises the passion that goes into making gin and how it came to be is a fascinating story in itself! Key to the recipe is the absence of contemporary botanicals and the focus is on a balanced, intricate botanical mix redistilled with neutral grain spirit.

Distilling historical gins in Jensen's converted railway arch with trains thundering overhead, they are proud to be a part of that tradition. As you might have guessed from the name, it's distilled in Bermondsey – which again plays into the history of gin, as a few big brands (which are still around today) began their story in Bermondsey too. Charlie gives a great entertaining potted history of UK alcohol consumption and the history of the distillery. Charles was an amazing host who is obviously passion about Jensen’s gin and the history of gin making.Gathers information for WordPress by themselves, first party analytics tool about how WP services are used.

My wife and I (a non-gin drinker) spent a few hours at Jensen's on a Saturday afternoon in the company of the highly informative and amusing Charlie.Obviously there was a considerable amount of tasting done so make sure you have something to eat first!
