Overall, the Ordnance Survey's first edition 1 inch map series is special for its comprehensive survey of Great Britain, its high level of accuracy, its visually striking design, and its wide range of uses. The location of the monuments is highlighted by displaying archaeological details against a modern map base. I just wish they would produce these maps on a smaller scale so they could fit in the little not so significant places but they still might be of interest.

An index to all sites is provided, with each monument named, giving the National Grid reference number. This map will satiate all your nerdy joys while exploring Hadrian's wall and the Roman fortification of present day York. The map and guide show the geographical distribution of some of the most important visible ancient monuments of Great Britain. The map is pretty much what you expect of a UK touring map coloured to indicate heights (green - brown), but with the modern road information all changed to a light grey to make it less obtrusive.Ancient Britain’s sites, monuments and related museums overprinted on a large, double-sided present day map of the country at 1:625,000 from the Ordnance Survey, plus numerous panels, maps and photos providing extensive additional information. Low Resolution file size is approximately 1 MB, suitable for prints up to 8 x 10-inches and High Resolution file size is approximately 4MB, suitable for prints up to 11 x 14-inches.
