About this deal

But when he comes face to face with Scarface Claw, the toughest tomcat in town, it's Hairy Maclary's turn to be bustled, rustled and hustled! I have a little boy and love reading to him, so this reading list will cover the classic (and new) children’s stories we’re enjoying together. In the 2019 TVNZ series Goodnight Kiwi the prime minister Jacinda Ardern read Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy; the episode aired on TVNZ 2 on Christmas Day. Seems kinda cheap to use children's books on my Goodreads book challenge, but quickly frankly I've read these books so many times I think its counts the same as a novel! We don't have a dog at the moment (we have three cats) but we're currently planning to get a puppy for Fin's 5th birthday.

In the 2019 TVNZ series Goodnight Kiwi, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern read Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy. Now you can meet them too in this frolicking, rollicking little library - a perfect introduction to the many adventures of Hairy Maclary and friends and just right for tiny fingers and little hands! es el primer título; quizás como lectura aislada sea aburrido porque repite mucho los nombres de cada perro, hay que valorar la serie en su conjunto. But when they suddenly find themselves face-to-face with Scarface Claw - the toughest Tom in town - it's time to run all the way back home!I don't see what makes it particularly special, other than there are probably not a lot of kids' books published in NZ. Lynley Dodd is New Zealand's bestselling children's author/illustrator and has an international following. Older children would enjoy reading this as well and it is a great way to inspire poetry and rhythm in their own writing. The Hairy Maclary books are picture books that are designed to be shared by an adult reader and a young child. His adventures are usually in the company of his other animal friends who include the Dachshund Schnitzel von Krumm, Dalmatian Bottomley Potts, Greyhound Bitzer Maloney, English Mastiff Hercules Morse and Old English Sheepdog Muffin Mclay.

As Hairy Maclary dozily dreams and lies on his back ZIP round the corner comes Zackary Quack - and HE wants to play! The Hairy Maclary books, despite their simple stories, introduce the listening child to some long but very expressive words which are not part of the average pre-schooler vocabulary, but must be understood by the child in the context in which they occur. Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy became an instant favourite when it was published in 1983, and children today still love following Hairy's adventures.Finley (my kiddo) is still too young to really appreciate it, but we've made the bedtime story a sacrosanct part of our routine since he was born, so at the moment it's more about which books we like more. It gives great adjectives and similes to each dog within the book and it's so much fun going on different adventures with Hairy Maclary and his friends. The one we've read most so far is Hairy Maclary and Zachary Quack, but we just found Hairy Maclary's Caterwaul Caper and I think that might overtake it - Monty loves all the different dog barks in that one and has started shouting out "bow wow wow! This book, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, is now famous the world over and the 20 titles in the Hairy Maclary and friends series have now sold more than six million copies worldwide.

Last week was the birth of our first great niece, and I had to get her a copy - of course, had to read it again myself. He's great and the rhymes in this rhyming book are easy to read and never feel like hard work to read again and again. The eight stories on this bumper CD collection are all set to music and read fabulously by Dr Who star David Tennant. Makes you wonder if there's some sort of weird genetic manipulation going on in Miss Plum's town and who's behind it. It provides them with an opportunity to learn a poem, a chance to make sound effects for Scarface Claw and create a change in tempo when they all run home to bed! It's a lovely little poem about a dog (Hairy Maclary) who takes himself for a walk and gets joined, one at a time, by his pack. Written and illustrated by New Zealander Lynley Dodd, the book has delighted generations and can be enjoyed time and again by children and adults alike. From his friends Bottomley Potts and Schnitzel von Krumm to his big enemy Scarface Claw, there are plenty of characters to meet and enjoy. I remember asking my reception class to carefully observe his features and we discussed the way Lynley Dodd had drawn him; with straight, short pencil lines, creating his circular body and head.
