Weirdly when the FX button is switched on the max volume decreases but it is still loud enough for most uses. A couple of alkaline AAA batteries powers the amPlug 2 for up to 10 hours and the new auto power off feature can save battery waste and keeping you rocking for longer. For me this is a big bonus, I don’t keep spare batteries in the house often and so being able to just plug it in to recharge is very handy. This product has been designed as a tool that blends in with your look, using predominantly black colours that match bass guitars of any colour. With that in mind, there are still plenty of affordable solutions out there that allow you to play your bass while amplified. Usually I just mess around to figure things out, but a lot of the features here really are ‘hidden’.

Things get even more realistic with Static mode, where the combined amp and room sound changes depending on where you move your head. If you are primarily looking for a nice warm, clean tone then the Vox sounds fantastic for such a small bit of kit.
