Sunday Club Ride

Weather was wonderful for cycling today and I was joined by Vicky, Rachel, Amanda and Diana for a lovely jaunt in the countryside. It was great to see a new lady out with us today – Diana who is in training for a 60K in May, from today’s outing I’m sure you’ll have no trouble with that. 🙂

We headed out of Didcot towards Long Wittenham, past the clumps before heading up Sires Hill (east) to North Moreton, South, Moreton and onto Wallingford. Climbing up out of Wallingford up Coxs Lane – catching our breath at the top, before cruising through Ipsden and onto Goring before heading back towards Didcot, passing through Cholsey, Blewbury and West Hagbourne. Vicky & Rachel headed for home, leaving Amanda, Diana and myself to grab a drink and have a lovely chat in the sunshine. 8)

I really enjoyed the fab company and route – I hope you ladies enjoyed it too.

looking forward to the next one already! 😀

Sunglasses and sun cream was the order of the day for today’s DPCC Club Ride 8) … Like the ladies, we also had a new lady out with us: Beth, having recently move to Didcot from the Liverpool area (if I heard correctly during the coffee stop chat), and keen to tackle a longer ride over some of the local hills. Once again a large turnout meant we split into two groups, Matt C. leading one and me taking the other.

Our route tackled much of the ladies’ one – only in the opposite direction – as we headed through East Hagbourne, Aston Tirrold, Cholsey and Moulsford to get to Streatley. Here the two routes departed as we headed further south to Hook End Land and the climb to Upper Basildon. And it was just outside Streatley that Matt’s group sailed past us as we waited for Steve Luck to swap tubes after puncturing on one of the myriad potholes 🙄 .

After passing through Upper Basildon our route then turned back on itself as we headed for Pangbourne and our second climb of the day to Whitchurch Hill. And with the toll bridge closed and negligible traffic we could take the climb at our own pace. From here it was a short ride down to Chazey Heath, crossing the Reading Road and through Tokers Green and Kidmore End to Sonning Common and The Herb Farm, where coffee and a selection of cakes and bacon rolls awaited us as we sat outside in the 8) glorious sunshine 8) .

For the return journey we deviated from the advertised route and rode through Stoke Row and Checkendon to avoid a section on the busy Reading Road, returning “on course” for the descent down Cleeve Hill. Here, the possibility of us having to divert again due road closures for the Goring 10k charity run was averted thanks to the time spent at the cafe, meaning they were all reopened and free from runners (although I suspect the ladies may have been caught up in this…). From here it was up to Ipsden and through Wallingford after which we escorted Steve Luck back to his mansion in Brightwell, before we finished our morning with a ride over Sire’s Hill and back in to Didcot along Abingdon Road.
