Sunday 17th Feb; Men’s and Ladies club runs, including additional splinter group
Another huge turnout. 25 men (in addition to the 5 ladies), so Ian Middleton led a splinter group; and Simon and I took the others (including 2 new faces – welcome Dean and Daniel). And Will Annells turning out for the first time on a Sunday – starting training for the summer time trials, eh?
Rather chilly for most of the ride to the cafe, as the early morning mist resolutely refused to burn off.
Destination this week was The Herb Garden, taking in several hills along the way: Cholsey “Mountain”; Crowmarsh Hill; Britwell Hill – all going up. Britwell Hill being particularly misty, you couldn’t see the top of the hill – even when you were AT the top of the hill! Then down Pishill, through Russells Water (where Bryan suffered a pothole-induced puncture) before taking the lumpy cross country route to Bix and Sonning Common. Where Ian H had a massive blowout in the car park!
Coffee and cake consumed, the return to Didcot took in Checkendon and Woodcote before the long run down Cleeve Hill into Goring and Streatley. One more puncture – Stan, just outside Moulsford.
My computer said just under 49 miles in 3 hours 09 minutes, giving an average of 15.5mph.
The splinter group, led by Ian, headed out to Goring and via the old road race course headed up to Woodcote. Andy and Giles left us after an hour, whilst we continued on to Henley, Pishill, Watlington, Stadhampton, Drayton St Leonard and back (mostly to Abingdon). I clocked up 54 miles, which included the cycle out from home, at an average of 16.4mph.
We were puntuture free, although a huge pothole just before Watlington caused a substantial buckle in one of the groups rear wheels.
A great ride, which eventually ended in sunshine.
I was broken by the time I got home though 🙂
A good ride out today for 5 of us ladies – doing just over 30 miles – and a few hills 🙂 Got chatted up by a load of blokes on bikes that we picked up at a couple of points!!!!!
A few moment along the way of “er can’t quite remember the route” (planned by Mr C!!!) but managed to find our way in the end 🙂
Here’s our route and details – http://connect.garmin.com/activity/274541081
Next ladies ride will be 4 weeks time – 17th March. Hope to see you all there
