About this deal

With temperatures hitting the high 20s and a heatwave due in July, chances are you'll be needing to re up on the sun cream this summer. We tested two popular sun creams in chlorinated water (to mimic a swimming pool) and salty water (to emulate the sea). We also added another scenario using fast-moving tap water to see what effect this had. Most of the time, the products weren't as effective in our more realistic conditions as they were in tap water. We saw an average 74% decrease in SPF protection at the end of the tests. We shared our concerns with Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD). Both advise against relying on any sun cream for extended periods in the sun. Sunscreen should be reapplied straight after you have been in water, even if it's "water resistant", and after towel drying, sweating or when it may have rubbed off. It contains moisturising vitamin E so the skin feels hydrated throughout the day. We love that it’s water-resistant for four hours so if you forget to reapply after swimming you’re still protected. The lotion is also cruelty-free and reef friendly. However, it only offers 3-star UVA protection. Ideally, you want a sun cream that hits the 5-star rating to ensure you’re as covered as can be. We tested this product out when sunbathing on a sunny day in the garden and found it to be effective and incredibly moisturising on my skin (thanks to the added glycerin). Since we first got my hands on this product, it's been in our desks or in our cross-body bag at all times. We found that it triples up as sun protection, setting spray, and a toner, and it's great for cooling down on a hot day.If you're using sun cream at the beach, apply plenty before swimming, and again when you leave the water.
