About this deal

Previous editions have been released in yearly batches, but in 2018, the Arran distillers decided that these whiskies had become so popular that they deserved to be a permanent part of the range! Finish: Medium in length which mainly consists of the sweet aniseed lingering on the tongue and a smattering of peaty smoke. It’s all psychological of course; these whiskies don’t “taste” of that place; they don’t even have terroir the way that great wines do (yet).

In 2018, construction started to build a second distillery in Lagg with production of their unique style of peated whisky beginning there in March 2019. Machrie Moor Cask Strength Whisky is a rich and powerful single malt that captures the rugged beauty of its island home. This 19th century cocktail is believed to have been created at New York City’s Waldorf Hotel (if you want to visit tod.

Since 2019, all peated production of whisky on the island is being done by our sister distillery at Lagg. It’s not only about the smokiness, peat also leaves its traces in other aspects of the whisky and can change flavour or texture in many ways. In general, Arran is a rather sweet and fruity style of whisky which does well with when matured in a variety of wood, with the distillery also having a popular ‘cask finish’ range in its portfolio alongside its core range. They taste of Scotland, more obviously than even Cognac tastes of its region or the best Tequila of its mountain soil.

This sweet yet rugged whisky is named after the windswept peat bog on the west coast of the island where, legend has it, the warrior giant Fingal kept his pet dog. A cask strength, peated single malt from the Isle of Arran distillery in Lochranza on the Isle of Arran. This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. Despite the fact that there are hardly any reviews of this whisky on YouTube or the Internet, both expressions are widely available here in Israel. Surprisingly sweet and honeyed, and the booze is very well controlled considering the lightness of body.

It's on my list the next time I get to the UK, please G-d soon when the war is over and all my sons come home safe and sound, Be'ezrat Hashem. Full disclosure: I have purchased bottles of both whiskies for this review and shared them with other members of my whisky group. The possibility to taste the Machrie Moor 10 side by side with the Arran 10 and to compare them was very appealing as both whiskies differed only in peat at first sight. The 10 year old bottling is the distillery’s flagship offering and was their first aged released back in 2006 (although it was subject to a new recipe in 2019).

Nose: Rich sweet spiced notes from a well matured Arran Single Malt, backed with the strength of peat smoke and ripe citrus fruits. Their core range includes a number of aged and no-aged expressions, as well as some cask experimentation. Agree with some of the other comments around the subtlety and savoury notes – I also get a biscuity undertone in the flavour that I like. Bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring, this peated Arran Single Malt displays all the freshness of our island house style, with an added puff of smoke and earthiness.
