About this deal

Pour in most of the lemonade; stir again — the mixture will foam up a bit; and top with a little more ice and the rest of the lemonade. Advocaat is not to be confused with Eggnog, another popular Christmas drink which has milk, cream and rum in it (as well as the eggs and sugar). Or, you can just buy it in a bottle - Warninks is the most common brand in the UK ( get it online* if you can't find it in the shops!). Obviously this is the option I chose (do you know me at all?).

Another option to pair with advocaat is a creamy chocolate pie topped with whipped cream. Apple, cherry, or raisin pie with sour cream are excellent choices for the winter. It’s easy to whip up this holiday drink at holiday parties. The big thing that sets this Advocaat snowball apart (traditional vs Dad’s way) is the fact that my Dad uses a blender to blend them up with crushed ice. As we said, you need Advocaat or it’s not a Snowball. Then it’s super important that you use a good quality lemonade or lemon-lime soda. It’s a pretty rich drink, so you will also need fresh lime juice to cut the intense sweetness. These drinks are slightly sweet, creamy, with just a bit of bubble from the carbonation. Combined with the foam on top you are left with a perfectly divine treat! If you are looking for a fun new drink for your holiday parties or new family traditions this is a great one to try.

Given the beverage’s proximity to eggnog, which is known in many nations, it is doubtful that the Dutch invented it from the avocado variety, despite their similar-sounding names. A pale, custard colour in appearance, a snowball gets its name thanks to the dome of white foam at the top of the drink – which occurs when you mix the ingredients together.

Although Advocaat is often referred to as a liqueur, it is considerably simpler to produce than most other liqueurs since there is no need for the ingredients to steep. It takes just as long as making most other eggnogs. Now, however, advocaat is usually made with only egg yolks, resulting in a darker yellow or mustard-like color than you would get if you used whole eggs. Modern recipes also cook it like custard due to worries about handling raw eggs. If you fancy tweaking a snowball, Charles suggests using cloudy lemonade and garnishing with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to create a Posh Snowball drink or adding mini meringue or Custard Cream on the side. Think of some of your favorite drinks to sip during the holiday season, and you’ll probably put eggnog near the top of the list, maybe followed by hot buttered rum, mulled wine or wassail. All of these winter warmers would certainly add to the holiday cheer as you gather in front of a cozy fire or watch your favorite holiday movies.

You can dive right in with these right out of the blender if you would like at home or fancy them up by adding a sugared rim on the glass or garnish with fresh cranberries or orange slices. Add lots of ice to a highball glass the top with Warninks, cream sherry and lemonade. Finish by balancing a custard cream biscuit on the rim – take a bite out for added fun! You can also make these in a highball glass or a tall glass with lots of ice cubes, but I prefer Martini glasses so that’s my choice! What ingredients go into a Snowball The Dutch word vla, which is similar to the English word fla, means both “custard” and “eggnog.” The addition of advocaat gives it an eggnog-like flavor while providing a twist on American eggnog. That’s what makes Warninks Adcocaat so special, it’s inextricably linked to one of the greatest family celebrations of the year. For millions of people of my generation, up and down the UK, it is a key to opening long lost happy memories. Preparing this snowball recipe for a crowd? Here’s a few tips that will make it so much easier to make these.

Pour the Luxardo liqueur over the cherries to cover; seal; and place in the fridge for at least a week before using. This will yield ½ cup of cherries. While there are some similarities in ingredients like eggs, the flavors are not alike. Actually nor is the texture. They are both rich an decadent in flavor – which makes it fit right in with the holiday table. The Create the Holidays series on The Purple Pumpkin Blog is filled with free printables, crafts, recipes, and more for Christmas and the Winter Holidays! For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. Up next is the Garland made using Warninks, amontillado sherry, spiced rum, topped with ginger ale, and garnished with candied ginger. Advocaat, along with notes of raisin and nut from the rum and the sherry, creates a Christmas pudding flavour with added ginger ale for that underlying spice – it’s Christmas cake in a glass. This collection of 20 Cozy Drink Recipes is sure to have one or two that will be a hit with some of your friends and family. Is Advocaat the same as Eggnog? Shake Warninks and freshly squeezed lime juice or cordial together with ice. Strain into a coupe or martini glass and top up with lemonade or soda. Garnish with Christmas foliage or mini meringues for a touch of class! But I won’t lie, I know a few other fun and creative boozy drink ideas that you can serve along side the Snowball, to spice up your holiday get-togethers. To complete the famous drink you add cold lemonade, lime juice or lime cordial to the Advocaat and include ice and a maraschino cherry as a garnish. Though avocaat gets its creaminess from egg yolks, the Dutch may have created it to mimic a drink the early explorers discovered while traveling in the Caribbean that used avocados, according to Culinary Lore.
