Perfect crisp tasting of the sweet brothels of 1363, the year this great vessel of glory entered the world. From our sortiment you can find over +5000 products from leading brands, distilleries and breweries around the globe. In 1964, the brewery produced its first wheat beer, and ten years later, all the Franziskaner brewed became wheat-based. With a rich white froth, Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Naturtrüb is a natural and beautiful wheat beer protagonist from Bavaria. Although I did find the sour level a little higher than I would prefer, and the texture could be a bit smoother.

Both breweries were owned by the Sedlmayr family (Gabriel Sedlmayr was a former royal court beer brewer). About half-way through, and Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier is as rich and smooth as I’d hoped, with no lingering bitterness. Instead, it focussed on the wheatiness and did it better than that other wheaty wheat beer, Erdinger Weißbier. The history of the brewery is a story of consistent ownership change which eventually found its footing in the mid 1800s; serving beer at the iconic Oktoberfest for the first time in 1872 and by 1909 furthered their ventures into a little country known as North America.Cloudy in appearance, the rich but delicately bitter taste of Franziskaner Weissbier results from the large percentage of wheat malt.

The brewery claims it brews the Franziskaner following the tradition of the German Purity Law of 1516.Kristall is a product aimed at the lager drinkers, but a real bavarian makes sure he gets all the yeast (hefe) out of the bottle and into his glass by twirling the bottle while pouring. Vivid carbination, small bubbles, fine foam, Biscuity smell, some sweetness, a bit of banana, little herby tanginess. APPEARANCE: Pours a hazy goldish amber, with a tall, white, tightly frothy head that dissipates slowly with moderate lacing. It was here that Franziskaner Weissbier would get its start, collecting its name from a nearby Franciscan Monastery.

Back to Franziskaner, well after sampling most wheat beers that Germany has to offer, this is by far my favourite.

In this case, a packet of honey and mustard pretzel pieces were enjoyed with their balanced sweet yet tangy flavours, working as a great partner to the lemon of the beer and even created a pleasant taste that lingered moments after. Medium bodied smooth texture average carbonation and a light bitter finish with lingering bread flavours.

Taste: The style offered by this Munich brewerer is a staple of German beer and culture in my experience. I’ve never had it from the bottle but from the tap I’d say it has some subtle fruity tastes (banana mostly) which I really enjoy.
