About this deal

Zuiko 60mm macro for 10 years now, with three different Micro Four Thirds bodies, and the lens still functions as good as new – and trust me, it has seen some things. The manual focusing ring has a very smooth action and it is reasonably well damped, which makes applying fine focus adjustments relatively straightforward. We've been using a full production version of this 120 fps sports camera, to see what you gain (and, perhaps, lose). Nothing against tripods, but windows to focus stack an insect may be very small and taking the extra time to set up might cost you your shot.

When I wrote this post, I had only had the lens for a few days but I was already impressed by Olympus’ first attempt at a macro Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lens. Finally, I want to talk a little bit about Focus Bracketing and how I utilize it to increase the depth of field in my macro photos. The most important first step to take when Bracketing is finding a subject that is still, any movement from you or the subject will result in a blurry final image or misaligned photos. Even when shooting towards the light, this lens is resistant to flare and contrast remains high in all but the most challenging lighting conditions.

I also worked with the 40-150 mm and preferred it in some situations, but for planes of focus material like below, the macro was always better. Again, the comparison below is nothing scientific but you can clearly see that both lenses are more than capable of shooting environmental portraits. Zuiko 60mm lens has allowed me to jump head first into this vast world of insects are showcase some of the stunning diversity I never knew existed. The photo below, at f/4, shows that depth of field is very thin for macro photography: DC-G9 + OLYMPUS M. ISO-200, handheld in-camera focusing stacking, full frame capture, subject distance 300 mm Olympus OM-D E-M1X + M.Here are some shots of some bee flies, a small very fast-moving parasite of solitary bees in western Europe. The workmanship is of high level, and its compact dimensions help greatly during long handheld shoots.
