About this deal

As Harry deals with revelations on his wedding day, he flees and finds himself in a web of lies and legal troubles on the shores of New York, as the reader stares into the abyss at the wonderful cliffhanger left at the end of the tale. Stan Tancock - Maisie Clifton's brother and Arthur Clifton's best friend and co-worker, a high-functioning alcoholic. The beautiful part of this was that the overlapping parts focused on the things that THAT character found important or were relevant to that character. This was the first book I read by Jeffrey Archer, but I have every intention of reading many more after this one. Everything would have worked out just fine, if Percy hadn’t told a friend how he’d managed to get into Eton.

Percy was as desperate to be offered a place at Eton as I was to be rejected, so I saw this as no more than an opportunity for both of us to achieve our purpose. On the other hand the book was well written, some of the characters we're very well done and I feel a spark of interest in Harry's future. In Nothing Ventured, William Warwick begins his career with London's Metropolitan Police Force, moving from his early months on the beat to his first big case with Scotland Yard's Art and Antiques squad. However, as my reading progressed the story became more and more redundant and predictable, and especially towards the end it felt like Jeffrey Archer included historical aspects to the story just for the sake of accentuating the history that was going on simultaneously to the characters' lives. Hugo perhaps, because he was such a cowardly toad but Maisie had a good handle on moral responsibility and lived for her son, so I’m not sure she would have simply stood by.

Meanwhile, William's father and sister lead the prosecution in the trial of a notorious drug baron, and an old acquaintance reappears in William's wife's life.Since his debut in 1976, Jeffrey Archer has published gripping thrillers including the Clifton Chronicles and William Warwick series. The writing itself is concise and to the point and without too much of a descriptive slant, but it’s a clever structure and the likeable characters combined with steadily building tension, kept me turning the pages. It is not poorly written and will satisfy those readers who love series, love adventure stories, love plot-oriented books and love solving a puzzle.

I rather enjoyed being addressed as ‘my lord’ by all and sundry, even if it was only for a few hours. Warwick finds himself and the heart of the cases, but only time will tell if he can catch the killers before it's too late. Young Harry has a beautiful singing voice and has the intelligence to further his education but without money he needed connections to gets through his schooling and to Oxford. After they had left, Mama went straight to my father’s study and I could hear raised voices, which had recently become more and more common.

This is a story about friendship, about the way different events are important to different people, and about how the actions of others - that we don't even know about - can affect so many aspects of our lives. It was also made into a successful serial for BBC Radio 4, and was later televised in 1990 by the BBC. Set in London in 1988 as Royal fever sweeps the nation, New Scotland Yard are on high alert to protect the most famous family on earth. It kept retelling the same story but from a different character's perspective, so I had to go back in time to listen to the same story over and over.
