The Revised English Hymnal is a revision and consolidation of the whole English Hymnal tradition, from 1906 to today. The musical editor was Anthony Caesar with significant assistance from Arthur Hutchings, Christopher Dearnley, and Michael Fleming.
Since its introduction in 1986, The New English Hymnal, containing 542 items, has been adopted in virtually every Anglican cathedral, many Roman Catholic cathedrals and in well over 1000 parishes. A few hymns (eg, It came upon the midnight clear) are now in different sections from some earlier collections. The only complaint is the pages are very thin, one can see music/verses printed on the other side, this is annoying while playing the organ, esp when the other side contain music.
