About this deal

There are few role models in the comedy world for women. Sarah Millican is a battle-hardened Everywoman who is not afraid (or if she is, she's tough enough to live with the embarrassment) to share her faults, her farts and her frailties. Pictures of bad hairdos and weight gains, discussions about her IBS - if only we could all feel comfortable enough to make light of the less glamorous parts of ourselves and laugh at them. My goodreads shelves have weird names. I get that they're mainly to help sort them out and possibly let others know if they'll like the book depending on whether someone has put them on the "Best YA evuuurrrr" shelf or not. But mine are weird and I like it. Tim Arthur (10 December 2008). "Sarah Millican: interview". Time Out. Archived from the original on 17 June 2009 . Retrieved 13 May 2009. As it says in the blurb this book really is part Autobiography and part self help. Along with some of the stories Sarah has added a little advice at the end of how either she dealt with the situation or could have dealt with the individual circumstances.

Interview: Sarah Millican's stand-up is in the worst possible taste". The Scotsman. 1 August 2009 . Retrieved 8 August 2009.That said, I guess it seems odd that I rated it 3 stars; it's truly 3.5 rounded down because I didn't reach the same level of enjoyment and laughter that I do from her actual stand-up routines. Her life hasn't been one long joke. Perfectly enjoyable audio book, but not to the point that I'm going to start recommending it to everyone I know--just to people who like bios and comedy.

Ian Wolf. "Episode 1.4". British Comedy Guide. Archived from the original on 18 April 2012 . Retrieved 9 October 2010. Of course there is some crossover in her stand up routines and this book. Clearly a lot of material came from real experiences. But if you laughed once, trust me you will laugh again and again. I did a lot of laughing out loud and it was a good job I was on my own in bed! Alongside this are some very funny takes on less world-changing aspects of everyday life. As an example, having found a tin of marrowfat peas in her cupoard: "I'm quite new to peas. They were one of the things I definitely didn’t like as a child without ever having tried them. Turns out they're really nice, though. I only dabble in garden peas. I've heard they are a gateway pea." And the book ends with a wonderful extended riff on baking a cake, with a real recipe in there, too. Millican's television series, The Sarah Millican Television Programme, was first broadcast on 8 March 2012 on BBC Two. In November 2012, she released a follow-up live DVD, Thoroughly Modern Millican. In early January 2013, she appeared for a couple of nights on The One Show. On 15 January 2013, she began presenting a second series of The Sarah Millican Television Programme. Millican was nominated for 2013 and 2014 BAFTA Entertainment Performance awards for her work in The Sarah Millican Television Programme. [25] Sam Wonfor (1 August 2009).
