About this deal

Following their massive success, the band continued its infamous soap opera when its musical leader and guitarist, Lindsey Buckingham, threatened to quit if he didn’t get things his way, resulting in clashes not only with his band but especially Caillat, who had been essential to the band’s Grammy-winning sound.

I dare say some people have had quality issues with copies of this album but I have yet to find an artist or label that doesn’t. The set will include: The Alternate Fleetwood Mac, The Alternate Rumours, The Alternate Tusk (2LP), The Alternate Live, The Alternate Mirage, The Alternate Tango In The Night. A limited-edition, clamshell-boxed anthology, it contains six CDs (or eight vinyl LPs) and includes versions of six of the group’s biggest albums that preserve their original cover art but offer different recordings of each of their tracks. In this candid, intimate portrait of a life lived in music, Mick Fleetwood sheds new light on well-known points in his history, including many incredible moments of recording and touring with Fleetwood Mac, as well as personal insights from a man who has been a major player in blues and rock 'n' roll since his teens. Still, as Nelson says in liner notes for Live at Budokan, a new two-CD and DVD release of the show, “Music is a great communicator…[people] will hear it in whatever language they are listening.Overall, the record isn’t as engaging as the earlier releases, and a few tracks, including “Angelsea” and “Freezing Steel,” feel like filler.

Le seul avantage est de les trouver tous réunis ensemble et pouvoir réentendre la magnifique Christine McVie nous chanter une de ses plus belles chansons, Songbird (sur Rumours). Some of the recordings (especially many of the concert tracks) are as good as—or arguably even better than—the familiar ones. Mirage is without doubt a superb album, capturing and showing off everything that is great about Fleetwood Mac in their earlier years. So, what do we get for the 50 th-anniversary edition of Catch Bull at Four, which happens to have been Stevens’s only No. Three of the albums that Cat Stevens released prior to Catch Bull at Four—1970’s Mona Bone Jakon and Tea for the Tillerman and 1971’s Teaser and the Firecat—have been the subject of gargantuan golden-anniversary box sets that included up to five CDs each with new mixes, alternate versions, demos, concert material, and rehearsal tapes, plus Blu-rays, vinyl LPs, hardcover books, frameable artwork, and assorted other memorabilia.

Some of his listeners probably wouldn’t have understood him if he had because they didn’t speak English.

Aside from introducing song titles and band members and thanking the audience for applause, Willie Nelsondidn’t talk much during his February 1984 concert at Japan’s Nippon Budokan arena. One example of that: The Alternate Collection’s “Suma’s Walk,” an amiable but unremarkable instrumental riff that with a new name, beefed-up instrumentation, and terrific vocals, became the Mirage ear candy known as “Can’t Go Back. I was not that interested in much of the later Fleetwood Mac output but have recently revisited their albums and I have to say this album has much more to it than I previously thought, hence the vinyl purchase. Les titres sont intéressants mais le problème, c’est que tous ces titres figurent déjà sur les diverses rééditions deluxe de ces albums : le disque bonus de la réédition de Rumours en 2004 contient 18 titres alors que celui de ce coffret 11 seulement, c’est gênant. In other cases, it’s the opposite: you can hear how the group took a flat-sounding, relatively prosaic recording, added musical touches and production magic, and transformed it into an extraordinary final rendition. Backed by a band that features his talented piano-playing sister Bobbie (who died last March at age 91), he hits all the bases in his repertoire and delivers some of his most famous numbers, including “Always on My Mind,” the self-penned “On the Road Again,” and Fred Rose’s “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” from 1975’s game-changing Red-Headed Stranger concept LP. In general, the tracks are more stripped down without the final additional embellishments, such as the searing guitar on Go Your Own Way.

I have taken the time to listen to these after picking up the box set on RSD Black Friday and I just have to say, the sound quality on these clear pressings is amazing! With my copy, though I encountered a sharp screech on more than 2 occasions in the first track alone. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Who else could deliver traditional and outlaw country tunes like “If You’ve Got the Money Honey I’ve Got the Time,” “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” and “Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line” and in the same show tap the Great American Songbook for beautifully rendered performances of songs like Hoagy Carmichael and Mitchell Parish’s “Stardust” and Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies”? Given that most people probably don't need an "alternative" Rumours LP as they probably still have the original (which, as we all know, sold by the truckload), I think that sales of the ALT recordings would likely be limited to hardcore collectors (like myself)!

I can give them some credit I suppose as this is an old album and perhaps they didn't have the luxury of a brilliant recording to start. At least there’s a large catalog of recorded material to remind us of just how potent a force this band could be.
