About this deal

GLYN JOHNS was the producer or engineer of a number of rock's classic albums, including those by the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, the Eagles, the Who, the Beatles, the Clash, and such singular artists as Joan Armatrading and Ryan Adams. Legendary producer/engineer Glyn Johns’ autobiography Sound Man is filled with cool stories about creating classic albums with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Clash, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Neil Young, The Steve Miller Band and many, many more.

In the late 1960s and 1970s, Johns was in demand on both sides of the Atlantic and worked with American acts such as the Steve Miller Band, and the Eagles. Really it is one of my favorite book and it is a must read for music lovers who care about and appreciate sound quality. In 2012, legendary producer and sound engineer Glyn Johns was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.I was blasted through my youth into middle age with an extraordinary combination of creative people, sounds, rhythm, and lyrics in a period of time that I believe is unlikely to ever be repeated. Johns engineered and co-produced the first two albums by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, which provided the hits " If You Wanna Get to Heaven" and " Jackie Blue". This format isn’t going to appeal to all readers, but I imagine this is how his career and life felt to him. Initially it was intended to be a double album tentatively under the working title Rat Patrol from Fort Brag. Keep An Open Mind: Time and again, Johns tells how he went to see acts with the prospect of working with them, was unimpressed and turned them down.

Glyn, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two years ago, was among the few to be present for the duration of the Get Back sessions, and thanks to whatever combination of good living, good genetics and good luck, he’s among the even fewer still with us in 2014. Title: Sound Man( A Life Recording Hits with the Rolling Stones the Who Led Zeppelin the Eagles Eric Clapton the Faces . There is no way I could haves stayed involved with what followed: fairly heavy substance abuse with hundreds of hours in the studio with the band being at each other’s throats, disappearing up their own arses. Its contents are generally reliable regarding his work as an engineer and producer for other artists. A couple of days into the project I asked Paul where George Martin was, only to be told that they had decided not to use him.Johns has little interest in lingering long over the specifics of capturing sound and he unfailingly credits the musicians and bands he worked with as being the main reason the classic recordings that he worked on continue to sound as good as they do. Just take the next 24 hours, and check out a fraction of songs he worked on as producer, engineer and/or was tasked with mixing on this playlist I put together. This can be so subtle, and invariably is nothing more than a subconscious emotive reaction to what others are playing around you, with what you are contributing having the same effect on them. While Johns doesn’t spare anyone with whom he’s had disagreements and dust-ups, (including and especially himself! Eventually, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon departed, [124] and the band recruited Don Felder and former James Gang guitarist Joe Walsh.

c] With Johns that year they recorded " (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" [51] and the albums December's Children (And Everybody's) [52] and Out of Our Heads. Glyn Johns’ autobiography, Sound Man, is a treasure trove of recording stories for pros and rock fans. He quit working with The Rolling Stones multiple times because they wouldn’t focus in the studio, leaving him endlessly waiting for them to get it together. Coats and ties were required to be worn by recording engineers (and white lab coats for technical engineers).Reading 'Sound Man' reminded me of just how many incredible people he worked with and how many great iconic records he made.

Glyn Johns is the sound of a large portion of rock radio, as well as most of our record collections. Take Some Time Out: Reading between the lines, there’s another lesson to be taken away from Sound Man, and that’s to occasionally stop and smell the roses. He was a brief part of Abbey Road’s story, too, having worked on “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” and “Something.the book is more observational than judgmental and that is why it will be a great read for sound and music enthusiasts and less so for those more interested in celebrity. No doubt you’ll find out that he had a hand in many records the sound of which you love, without knowing Johns was responsible. Initially it was very strange to me to even accept the fact that everybody was treating it like a book. Felton Rapley, considered one of the leading pipe organists in the UK at the time, became the choirmaster, and as Johns progressed, Johns was given occasional solos and eventually rose to head chorister at the age of eleven. Glyn Johns worked as the chief recording engineer on the Beatles' "Get Back" sessions, which were both taped and filmed.
