Last night the club met at The Bear in North Moreton for the DPCC Annual Awards evening. Chairman, Ian Middleton, opened the evening with a speech thanking several key members of the club, without whom the club would not function. A particular mention was given to Tom Greystock, who retired this year as the clubs main timekeeper. Tom, with help from Pauline, have been present at hundreds of time trials over the years and have provided a tremendous service to our club. Thanks was also given to Phil Robbins for running the club Cyclocross for the past few years and also to Matt Chambers who has successfully run the club Audax recently.
Ian also thanked the club committee with its new members, providing a fresh start to 2011.
Following a 3 course meal, it was time to introduce John Paul, a member of the Scottish Commonwealth Games team this year and also ex-member of the Didcot Phoenix Cycling Club! John gave an insight full question and answers session and it was great to see how club members go from strength to strength!
Following the talk from John Paul, it was time to give out the 2010 DPCC Awards.
We had a turn out of 16 (including a tandem) yesterday.
Working out the handicap for the Christmas Cup has given me brain ache, so I’ve asked messers Fountain and Scanlan to double check my workings out before the winner is formally announced.
Big thanks to Laura and Catherine T for running the start watch. Steve Rowe for pushing-off, Dave Rodger for helping with the finish timekeeping and Dunco for coming out for morale support.
Look forward to catching up soon,
The results are now available here.
Well done to Nick with the quickest time overall, but Stan won the Christmas Cup on handicap! The prize giving will take place this weekend at our Awards Dinner
We need to squeeze this in before the awards dinner, and the “Boxing Day” TT on the 23rd – so Sun 16th it is!
Normal club run meet time/place, and we’ll pootle over to a suitable hill (probably the one down into Cholsey); then onto Benson for tea, cake and bragging.
Rain will not stop play – but other weather conditions might. Fingers crossed!
The latest Didcot Phoenix CC news letter is now available from the News Letter pages. Thanks to Tom for publishing the News Letter.
Hello all and Happy New Year!
Following the postponement of the Boxing Day 10 because of bad weather, I am pleased to confirm that alternative arrangements are now in place to run the event on the morning of Sunday 23 January.
Details are as follows:
Course: Stadhampton 10 (CC118)
Start Time: 11:01 am
Parking, Sign-On and Finish: As usual (see DPCC website for further info)
There is a club trophy at stake, the Christmas Cup, but don’t let that put you off it’s awarded on a handicap basis. Hopefully everyone is in with a fighting chance of laying claim to the silverware.
Many thanks to Mark Scanlan for guiding me through the process of re-scheduling the event and to those who had volunteered to turn out on Boxing day to help.
Concerning help, I do need to now find a start timekeeper and a pusher off – If you are free then please do drop me a line at email@example.com
