For this recipe, made sure to use large apple , the bi gger the apple the bigger will be your dessert (and easier to work around it). Make sure to overlap the strips a little. You can stretch the pastry if needed, and try to keep the middle hole open if possible.

I used a round cookie cutter - 1 inch in diameter. But you can cut with a knife. Note: I would not go any smaller than 1 inch for the hole, or the wrapping part will be harder.
