Und so richtig zufriedenstellend hat mir Christpher Edge das auch nicht erklärt … Schade. Denn das ist ja DAS zentrale Thema. This book is about a boy named Albie whose mum died. His mum was an amazing scientist and both Albie and his dad are devastated when she dies. Albie is desperate to see his mum again and when his dad mentions Quantum physics, and how numerous versions of ourselves can exist in a parallel universe, Albie decides to try and travel into one where his mum is alive. He finds out about the Quantum banana theory and uses it to travel into different parallel universes. Albie finds lots of versions of himself and his life on his mission to find his mum. When Albie’s mum dies, it’s natural he should ask where she’s gone. His parents are both scientists and they usually have all the answers. Dad mutters something about quantum physics and parallel universes, so Albie gets a box, a laptop and a rotting banana, and sends himself through time and space in search of his mum. What he finds may or may not be what he’s looking for, but he does learn the answers to some big questions. This is the story of a boy called Albie who loses his mother who died of cancer but by the help of his dad's book of quantum physics, he uses them to his advantage and makes ' The quantum banana theory ' to travel through the parallel universes of the multiverse in search of a universe where his mum never died. By far my most favourite book yet as I LOVE science fiction, especially space science fiction. It's funny what goes through the world of quantum physics...

When we first meet Albie he tells us about his mother's death, and I defy anyone not to fall in love with him right away. Once his dad talks to him about quantum physics Albie is convinced that with the right invention he will be able to travel to an alternate universe, one where his mother is alive. Despite the author's easy explanations, or maybe even because they were so easy, the method Albie finds is incredibly hard to believe. And the weird applications to theory were as unrealistic. However, it didn't get in the way of my enjoying it, because the how is definitely not the point. He could have just stumbled into a magical portal. His journey and the conclusions both Albie and me as the reader reach by the end were really the thing. Kirsty Jenkins loves the allotment her grandfather lovingly tends and, just before he dies, he asks Kirsty to look after it for him. Unfortunately, Mr Thomas from the council has other ideas and insists the allotment must go to the next person on the waiting list. Straight of the cover pulled me in and after hearing some great things I added it to my list. My very long list. Fast forward to this Summer and I finally reserved it in the library and read it. And people, you NEED to read this book. It is gorgeous.

I wasn't sure at first how much as I was going to like this but then, with the final half of the book pulling no punching and wearing its heart right on its sleeve, I was won over: hook, like and sinker. Love the constant universes starting with bad Albie then clever girl Albie then Albie's dad who was a coal miner then last of all, Alboe's mother. It's heart breaking knowing Albie's mum is dead because I have a great mother and would want to die if my mum died. In total this is a fabulous book and I've read the other author's books and they are simply marvellous. Overall I would recommend this book to someone (especially nerds)! Zum einen, weil ich Euch viel lieber in meinen eigenen Worten den Inhalt spoilerfrei wiedergebe, zum Anderen weil ich selbst eigentlich nie Klappentexte lese. Das war schon immer so. Ich hasse Klappentexte. Entweder sie erzählen zu viel vom Inhalt oder sie führen einen auf die falsche Fährte (was hier der Fall gewesen wäre) . Daher ist für mich immer das Cover und/oder Autor der Grund, warum ich nach einem Buch greife – und die erste Seite dann die Kaufentscheidung.
