Also, during some climactic scenes the POV’s would change so rapidly (like literally every couple of sentences) that I had whiplash and it took me out of the story. Underneath the seemingly dangerous exterior is a vulnerable and wounded young man, who truly deserves to find freedom and love. Our difference from normal humans was why we had to hide in this old mansion so that we wouldn’t get hurt or taken by the bad people. I gathered that Spencer would play more twists and turns in later books, but the very next book in the saga features desert civilisation/Muslim analogue so I'm both cautious and curious.Adrian and Kara are fighting like children when the gates of Avalon open, and Emily succumbs to the prophecy. For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But it will also easily resonate with kids that have no experience with domestic violence as they learn the why behind the behavior of their peers. Do you feel weighed down by stress and pressure, held back by judgement and lack of opportunity, and critcised by everyone – including yourself?

The writing encompasses a careful attention to detail that speaks of the author’s love of the craft. And I would have been 100% okay with that if I’d known it going in, the book is already more than long enough to justify the cost. For this is an epoch-spanning saga where history repeats itself with tragic consequences: this time it is Aidan, a serving mage at Aerysius, who decides to tamper with the forces of darkness, resurrecting the original eight darkmages who brought ruin on Caladorn in demonic form to further his own ambitions. I recommend this if you enjoy exciting magic, battles, betrayal, magical creatures, dark themes and strong relationships.BUT CAN A STORY, EVEN ONE THAT PARALLELS HIS ACTIONS IN THE REAL WORLD, BE ENOUGH TO TURN HIS LIFE AROUND? But that is not the end for him as he transmigrates to the same world but different body, And starts anew to fulfill his dream of becoming the strongest mage. I would highly recommend this series to readers of grimdark and dark fantasy who are looking for a more literary approach to the genre that is not strictly bound by the conventions of contemporary fantasy storytelling, and I for one am very curious to see what happens in the next instalment of this exciting and unpredictable series.
