Another little perk is that the base of the camera unit includes a mounting hole that allows you to use the included screw and anchor to mount the camera to the wall. The one surprising omission from this system is a wake-on-sound feature. There’s a feeding timer that can wake you every four or six hours, and an option to make the system warnings (low battery, lost connection) quieter, but no auto-wake. The screen can automatically turn off (to save the battery) after three or five minutes while the sound is still on for you to listen for anything happening, but you’re relying on the sound of your baby to get your attention. Inside the box are two identical-looking power adapters, but they aren't the same. Each is clearly marked, one for the camera (5.9V) and one for the monitor (5.0V). There's an extra USB cable for charging the monitor from a USB port or a power bank. Missing from the Pro (but available in the old model) is an option to charge the monitor with a micro USB cable, so you'll need to buy another proprietary charger if you lose one. When charged properly before the first use, we were very impressed with how long the monitor kept a charge. An LED bar to the right of the buttons indicates the charge level; it was almost 12 hours before it needed to be plugged in again, but a full charge does take seven hours. Answer: No. While you can add up to four cameras to one parent unit, you will be able to see only one camera at a time. The Infant Optics DXR-8 does not have a split-screen mode.

The 3.5″ display allows you to see only one camera at a time. There is indeed no split-screen mode. The sound will also only come from one camera at a time. That said, you can easily switch from one camera to the next and there is an auto-switch option in which the camera and sound switch room to room about every 30 seconds. The picture quality on the display itself is about average with a resolution of 320 pixels by 240 pixels.In our transmission range test this model also sits right in the middle: it’s nothing amazing, but for monitoring a room on the other side of your house it should be sufficient. When we took the monitor out to the detached garage there were some spots where the signal didn’t come through, but we always found a spot where it worked. Deciding to choose a baby monitor should not be based on what’s popular or the most hi-tech. Especially if you’re a parent on a budget, you don’t want to risk spending on a device with attractive features only to realize you don’t really need all of those.

The range you can use this monitor at is great, and it was the most immune to interference or drop-outs. The screen is also the biggest, which makes it easy to see what’s going on in night vision mode. Combined with full pan/tilt control, this is a solid video setup on paper.Temperature monitor: If you’re in a different room you may want to keep an eye on room temperature, especially if you live in a place like California where you’re not using a thermostat all the time to maintain room temperature. None of the thermometers we tested had better accuracy than three degrees Fahrenheit, but it might add to your peace of mind. It has some great capabilities, including remote tilt (it can tilt up about 95° and down about 25°) and remote panning (it can rotate side-to-side by about 135°). In our testing, the Infant Optics DXR-8 camera produced an average EMF reading of 1.89 mG when placed 6 foot / 1.8 meters away from our baby’s bed. This is the minimum approximate distance for most baby monitor cameras. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends that you limit your exposure to 0.5 mG to 2.5 mG at a time, so this is within range. The further you place the camera from your baby, the less EMF they will be exposed to. Expandable to up to four cameras allowing parents to keep an eye on more than one child in separate areas of the home at the same time. Indoor, we had absolutely no issues maintaining great signal reception. The device uses the typical 2.4GHz frequency band with frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS).

There is no chance you can snooze through the loud sound your parent unit can produce. We love the Infant Optics DXR-8 PRO. For parents looking for a traditional-style baby monitor with excellent features, reliability, and quality, we think this is the perfect option. It includes a sound-activated mode that turns on the screen when your baby cries, which can help if you’re worried you might miss something but don’t want to sit hunched over a baby monitor waiting for something to happen. This also applies to the audio. You cannot hear the sound coming in from all the cameras. The parent unit can only let you access the audio of the camera you’re viewing from.
