Formal times and placings TBC (‘procedures’) but their Garmins tell us that Ali and Rich clocked around 220, and around 300 (!) miles respectively in the National 12-hour TT on Sunday 17 July. A new club record for each of them, and huge thanks to Harri and Louise for looking after our riders and for live updates from a layby on the A31. Mersey Roads, anyone?
National record holder Marcin Bialoblocki smashed the course record to win the Didcot Phoenix CC 25-mile time trial on the H25/17 course on the A420 between Cumnor and Faringdon in Oxfordshire.
His time of 45:49 gave him a winning margin of more than three minutes over second-placed rider Tim Cartwright of Newbury RC (49:08), with Chris Boddy close behind to take the final podium spot (49:20).
First woman was Suzy Patience of Banbury Star CC with a time of 1:02:34, while Deborah Davidson (Mickey Cranks) took second place with a time of 1:03:40 and Cyndi Goh (Oxford University CC) third in 1:04:11.
Gregory Woodford (+16:51) was fastest veteran on standard, with Rob West (+14:57) in second place, ahead of Danny Axford (+14:36) in third place.
The team prize was won by Didcot Phoenix CC (Chris Boddy, Richard Gildea and Martin Stanley), with a combined time of 2:36:10. Matthew Ridley (Oxford University CC) was the winner of the prize for being “closest to the hour, without breaking it”, with a time of 1:00:19.
The H25/17 course starts near Cumnor, and heads along the A420 through Kingston Bagpuize to Faringdon before turning around and retracing.
Thanks to Harri James for organising a well run and attended event.

UCI Tour of Cambridge
Alison Vessey made it onto the podium twice over the weekend. Intially picking up 3rd place in the Chrono on Saturday 2nd, and then placing 1st in the road race on Sunday 3rd for her age category. Steve Dunton also picked up 2nd place on Sunday in the road race for his age cat. Congratulations to Alison, Steve, and to Rob Vessey for riding both events. Am sure we all look forward to seeing Alison’s rainbow bands parading on South Oxfordshire roads.

Rich was 4th overall and Chris joint 1st in the event on the R25/3H course in Wales.
Fantastic conditions and superb rides both!
2017 Leiden Plaque
This year it was DPCCs turn to host the annual inter Oxfordshire cycling club time trialling competition and Harri James pulled out all the stops in creating a great event on such a stunning Bank Holiday Monday.
Congratulations were due again to winners Banbury Star CC, with Cowley Road Condors CC 2nd, and Oxonian CC 3rd. Thanks to all competing riders and especially to the many volunteers at the HQ, and marshals and timekeepers out on the course.

Richard Gildea has taken 9 minutes off the club 100-mile TT record with an unconfirmed 3 hours and 46 minutes – ish. Ruddy marvellous, isn’t it? Here he is in action:
Congratulations to Lucy Austin, who took a chunk off the 10-mile TT record to produce 23:48 on a road bike. Sensational stuff, lady. See you at Tring?
A great night was had by the club members that attended the awards evening at The Steventon House Hotel on Saturday evening. Many thanks to our Chairman Tim for presenting the many awards and to Simon Evans for organising such a great venue, meal and quiz. Full set of photos here.

Good news! Becoming the fastest Didcot Phoenix rider called Richard has become fractionally easier, as Richard Harrison has been invited to ride amongst the great and the good at drag2zero. He remains the holder of the DPCC 10-mile TT record, with a storming 18:56 achieved on the V718 course last year.
We wish him all the best with his new team. Pop back and see us some Thursday night on the A420, won’t you Rich? We’ll be in the usual lay-by.
Congrats to the 3 hardy club riders who took part in the Reading Open Hill climb, firstly climbing Goring – Crays Pond Hill, followed by Streatley Hill an hour later.
Richard Gildea came 4th overall (first DPCC rider), but more importantly becomes DPCC Hill Climb Champ 2016 and overall club record holder for both hill climbs! Great work Richard!
