Formal times and placings TBC (‘procedures’) but their Garmins tell us that Ali and Rich clocked around 220, and around 300 (!) miles respectively in the National 12-hour TT on Sunday 17 July. A new club record for each of them, and huge thanks to Harri and Louise for looking after our riders and for live updates from a layby on the A31. Mersey Roads, anyone?
If he hasn’t told you already (where have you been?), Dunko is off on Thursday to Leeds to ride the first stage of Le Tour in the Grand Depart Challenge, where he is trying to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity (funnily enough).
Some of our members have been kind enough to donate in response to my post on the Club’s Facebook page, but if you’re not living in the 20th century yet (and don’t have a Farcebook account), here’s the link to read my story and donate if you can afford it.

I’ll post a story on here if I make it to the end, and we’ll be in Yorkshire Sat and Sunday if you’re up having a nose about. I think we’re going to look at the start in Leeds, then catch the bus/train to Harrogate later for the finish of stage 1…. I know Mike and Laura are going up too if you want to catch up with someone who doesn’t talk so much….
I’ll wish me luck!

Tim Davies is helping to co-ordinate a possible weekend of cycling in Wales.
Possible itinerary would be:
* Friday meet at say 5.30 and drive to Llandysul (post code SA44 if you want to find it on google maps). Drive time is typically 3 hours.
* Saturday morning longish ride
* Saturday afternoon activity
* Sunday morning ride
* Sunday lunch and then head home afterwards.
If you are interested in attending then please fill out the following survey, to help determine possible weekends and itinerary:

Un update on our Cyclocross event progress.
Now I’m feeling a bit fresher, I’ve had my head down and busy with organisational tasks week….
Venue and Facilities are locked in with many thanks to Sean Stewart (Ironman) and Ron Smith (our own man of Steel), and with a meeting with Paul, the Head of the Recreation Society to come early next week, things will tie in nicely.
We have a meeting for DPCC members at the Prince of Wales pub across from the Station in Didcot on Wednesday the 27th (1930), to have a catchup and plan anything outstanding over a beer.
On the weekend of December 1, we have the minibus and a trailer going up the the National cup round at MK to collect the kit for our race- anyone keen/interested will be looked after by the club for their efforts.
Generally, things are in hand- we’re blessed to have our thoughtful, wise and all knowing CX head man Phil Robbins with us on Race day (along with 2 other BC Commissaires which shows they’re serious about our race), which is always a comfort.
There’s banners and DPCC signage ordered, custom wristbands that will enable helpers/marshalls to access free refreshments on the day and I’m willing to take on board any suggestions that anyone has to make this something really special this year.
CX is the fastest growing discipline in cycling racing, and it would be great to think that along the way that DPCC will have contributed a little something special with our event this year.
And we’ll need your cakes to sell on the day! So start watching re runs of the GBBO, or call Claire H for tips.
SO, if Cyclocross has not been your cup of tea up to this point or if you look back at your season and say ‘what more can I do for the club?’, call/ email/PM or text Dunko and commit to helping out on December 1(pickup kit from MK), December 7 -1000 (course setup at RAL from 1000- you’re more than welcome to ride it when it’s done), or on Raceday December 8-0800 (marshalling, cake selling, sign on, scoring, course changes and repair and other duties).
I can guarantee the weather may be chilly, possibly a bit rough, but you will walk away having been a part of something at Harwell that I honestly believe will lead to International Cyclocross (yep), coming there within the next 2 years. Mark my words on that one.
Get in touch and help out
Oh, and as little aside (which I can’t make as I’m going to the Thugby League at Wembley), Welleyn Wheelers Cycling Club are organising a bustrip to Belgium for one of the World Cup CX rounds… Heres the FB link. It would be a magic day out…
Sunday 8th September 2013
Help still needed please.
Start time 08.00.
HQ Wootton & Dry Sandford Village Hall
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you could help with anything on the day OR indeed if you were available to help putting out signs on Saturday.
Thanks to those already signed up.

Been a bit slow to post this up, but I know everyone in the club always pospones their skiing holidays so they can come along and help out with our CX. It’s up at the Rutherford Appleton Labarotries, where Swindon has hosted their Cx the last couple of years- the difference being that ours needs to be a Category A event. Setup will be December 6/7, with the race on Sunday the 8th of December. Easy done.
It’s going to be a great venue- super terrain, superb support from the RAL site manager Sean Stewart and our man Ronnie Smith
The Course will be truly memorable- there’ll be a stair climb, and some really technical sections- befit of a championship racecourse.
We’ll spend some time at the next comittee meeting having some preliminary discussions, with a guest of the Central League CX Committiee leader there for a chat/brainstorm- any thoughts are most welome (just email or bang down ideas on the forum).
It’s the big road race at WOTG tonight, so I’ll be looking to our finest road lads tearing up the track and coming home with podium placings (no pressure there then).
